Sahara rewards hockey team

January 28, 2004 21:03 IST

In keeping with their policy of performance-based cash incentives, Indian hockey team sponsors Sahara India Pariwar gave away Rs 150,000 to each member of the Afro-Asian Games gold medal-winning squad on Wednesday.

The 16 players as well as five officials, including the coach, were handed over cheques at Gurgaon, where a preparatory camp for the upcoming three-match Test series against Olympic champions Holland is on.

"Sahara India Pariwar feels proud of the Indian team's victory at the Afro-Asian Games, and fulfilling our commitments is just another way of infusing enthusiasm in the players," Abhijit Sarkar, Sahara's Corporate Communications chief, said in a statement.

Sahara, which also sponsors the Indian cricket team, has an eight-year sponsorship deal with the Indian Hockey Federation.
