Desailly banned for three matches

April 23, 2004 21:23 IST

Chelsea's captain Marcel Desailly has been banned for three matches for "assaulting" Fernando Morientes in Tuesday's Champions League semi-final against Monaco.

The decision was based on video evidence as Desailly's elbow into Morientes's face was not seen by the referee, UEFA said in a statement on Friday after a disciplinary hearing.

He will miss the second leg of the tie. Monaco won the first leg 3-1.

Deportivo Coruna's Jorge Andrade was suspended for one match after being sent off in the semi-final first leg match against Porto on Wednesday.
