JCT Phagwara beat Salgaocar

December 14, 2003 19:38 IST

JCT Phagwara survived a scare before romping home to a 1-0 victory over Salgaocar Sports Club in the eighth National Football League match played in the Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana on Sunday.

The lone goal was scored in the 17th minute when I M Vijayan scored a superb goal from the right corner.

Things could have been different if the JCT custodian had not shown an excellent display of goalkeeping. Mansur Ali saved at least four certain goals for JCT.

In the dying minutes Jatin S Bist's kick from within the striking circle was also foiled by him.

After the completion of the fourth round in this league, JCT Phagwara has 7 points (2 won, one lost and one draw), and Salgaocar Sports Club 6 points (two won, one lost and one draw).

Next match will be played here on December 20 between JCT Phagwara and Dempo Sports.
