Four astronauts from NASA's Artemis II mission have safely returned to Earth after completing a historic flyby of the moon, marking the first human journey to the moon in over 50 years.
It is composed of a series of shots taken October 12 by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, as it passed about 83 miles above the lunar crater Compton on the far side of the moon, NASA said.
Cernan, a captain in the United States Navy, left his mark on the history of exploration by flying three times in space, twice to the moon.
