For thousands of Shiv Sainiks across Maharashtra, the demise of their leader Balasaheb Thackeray will remain an irreparable loss.

During his last journey on Sunday, thousands of his supporters gathered from across the state to get a last glimpse of their 'saheb'.

The scorching sun was no deterrent for the grieving Sainiks on Sunday. Right from Balasaheb's residence 'Matoshree' to Shivaji Park where he was cremated, the nearly seven-hour long journey saw people in a state of shock, disbelief, grief.

While politicians, tycoons and celebrities took turns to pay their last respects at Shivaji Park, the ordinary Sainiks mourned by themselves, in silence, in solitude despite the throngs around them. Only their face betraying their emotion.

Rediff.com's Uttam Ghosh captured some candid moments on his camera.
