Nelson Mandela, the prisoner-turned-president who reconciled South Africa after the end of apartheid, died on Thursday, December 5. Looking back at the legend. 

Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first elected black president and a global anti-apartheid icon died on Thursday, at his home in the suburb of Houghton in Johannesburg, following a lengthy illness. He was 95.
