Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Sunday took a jibe at the Congress, saying its total number of seats in four states is less than what his party has won in one state.

"The total number of seats the Congress has won in all the four states today cannot even match the seats @BJP4India won in 1 state!" Modi said on Twitter.

Terming the BJP's performance in these elections as "spectacular", he said, "I congratulate Rajnathji, party leaders & Karyakartas (workers) for their hard work in the elections.

'The only alternative is the BJP'

Results of assembly polls in four states reflect the anti-Congress mood prevailing in the country and the stage is set for the Congress party's ouster at the Centre, senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu has said.

"There is a pro-BJP mood across the country. BJP is the only challenger to the Congress. That has been proved beyond doubt. Only in Delhi, the Aam Admi Party, being a new party making very pious promises, were able to take some anti-Congress votes," he told reporters.

The Delhi unit of the BJP needs to learn some lessons from the election, he said, expressing confidence that the party would get a majority in the national capital as well.

"It will be a BJP government. Nobody else can form the government in Delhi," he said.

"At the national level, it is very clear now. The Congress will be out. It will be a total rout. There is no doubt about the same. Because, at the national level, the only alternative is the BJP," he said.

Terming her party's victory in the assembly elections as a decisive message before the 2014 general elections, BJP leader Smriti Irani said this is a mandate against Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul.

"This is a decisive victory for the BJP. This anti-Congress vote is not only against corruption, price rise and anti-people policies, but a mandate against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi," she said.

"This victory has given out a message. Just 5-6 months before the general elections, it is a decisive indication that people want to have a BJP-led government at the Centre," she said.

Taking a dig at the UPA's Food Security Act, Irani said the Congress leadership had tried many stunts, but all of them fell flat.
