The US Supreme Court legalised gay marriage on Friday in a 5-4 decision, and within hours couples across the country were being issued marriage licenses.
The landmark ruling says that the Fourteenth Amendment to the US Constitution guarantees gays and lesbians must have the same right to marry as heterosexuals.
Young and old, dressed in gown and suits, the same-sex couples kissed and waved flags that read love wins as they headed to courts to seek licenses and get married.
