The United States said that Pakistan has committed itself to the Afghanistan reconciliation process and there was a high level interaction between the two countries.

"Pakistan itself has committed to supporting reconciliation, and joined in the positive statements made in Istanbul and Bonn in that regard," the US State Department spokesperson, Victoria Nuland, told reporters.

"Our goal is to get Afghans talking to Afghans, to get a process of reconciliation that is among Afghans. We have said that we believe that Pakistan has a role to play in supporting this process, as we do; Secretary of State (Hillary Clinton) spoke to the Pakistanis about that when she was in Pakistan in October," Nuland said in response to a question.

The Special US Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Marc Grossman, recently was in Kabul and met the Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai twice in less than a week, she said. He could not travel to Islamabad as Pakistanis thought this was not a good time for them. But, there has been a high level interaction between the two countries, Nuland added.
