The Congress party on Sunday expressed confidence in finding a way to address the Left parties' anger against the government's decision to disinvest in Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, and said the common goal of the alliance and supporting parties was to fight communal forces.
"Nothing is beyond resolution. It can be resolved and it will be resolved," All India Congress Committee media chairperson Ambika Soni told PTI, putting up a brave face over the decision of the Left parties not to attend coordination committee meetings with the United Progressive Alliance government, protesting BHEL disinvestment.
Asked whether the Left's decision amounted to a threat to the stability of Congress-led ruling coalition, Soni avoided a
direct reply and insisted Congress and other allies, including the Left, had come together on the common goal of upholding secularism and preventing communal forces from occupying power.
Replying to a question, Soni said there was no question of anyone taking anyone else for granted and 'doors and
windows of leaders of the UPA are not closed'.
She sought to emphasise that UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have been regularly
interacting with UPA allies as also supporting parties, including the Left.
The senior Congress leader recalled that Dr Singh had met Communist Party of India-Marxist veteran leader Harkishan Singh Surjeet on Saturday.
Soni said she was confident that the issue will be resolved 'in not a distant future' and said, given the larger goal, everything can be worked out.
She said that in last one year of the UPA government problems had cropped up, but they were successfully resolved through consultation, interactions and discussions.
Soni said the UPA partners and supporting parties had evolved a Common Minimum Programme for running the coalition.
"Naturally as you go along there are issues that will come up, but they can be resolved," she said.
