Roger Moore, 007, receives knighthood

For once Roger Moore, who portrayed British agent James Bond with aplomb, was stumped.

"I had the worst attack of stage fright in my life," he said after being knighted at Buckingham Palace on Thursday.

"When you realise the gravitas of the situation, it's slightly nerve-racking," he said after meeting Queen Elizabeth II. "It was like a costume drama and I was Sir Ivanhoe - a part I have played, incidentally."

The 75-year-old was knighted not for being on Her Majesty's service, but for his charity work, including 12 years as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Children's Fund.

Moore took over the role of agent 007 in the 1973 film Live and Let Die. He went on to star in another six Bond films, the last being A View to a Kill in 1985.

He is the second James Bond actor to be knighted -- Sean Connery was honoured three years ago.

In May, he was fitted with a pacemaker after he collapsed on stage during a Broadway performance.
