The Bihar government has constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the large-scale violence and arson by protesters during Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Adhikar Yatra to Khagaria district two days ago, a police official said on Saturday.

The SIT, headed by Superintendent of Police Sheo Kumar Jha, has been directed to rush to Khagaria district and probe the incident. The SIT will submit a report to the police headquarters, Additional Director General of Police, headquarters, Ravindra Kumar told PTI.

He said the Khagaria police have arrested two more protesters, taking the number of those arrested in connection with the violence in the district to 37.

Raids were being carried out to nab other accused people, Kumar said.

The police had on Friday lodged FIRs against 673 protesters, including 600 unidentified ones, for their alleged involvement in violence in Khagaria district during the chief minister's visit on September 27, the ADG said.

Kumar's Adhikar Yatra in Khagaria district was marred by large-scale violence by the protesters, comprising the contractual teachers, who had also set on fire the record room in the district collectorate and torched at least four vehicles in the district.
