Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed has shot off a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi demanding a high-level probe into alleged bias against prisoners belonging to the minority community in Maharashtra jails.

Ahamed, who is also president of the Indian Union Muslim League, stressed that 'delinquent officers' working with bias against the community should be brought to book.

The letter cites a recent study of Tata Institute of Social Sciences in this regard.

"It is most alarming that a section of people, who belong to a particular religion are subjected to untold difficulties, hardships and denial of justice in a democratic country. It is disgraceful that the law-enforcing authority is prejudiced against the community denying them even elementary opportunity to be heard," Ahamed said.
