A rifleman of the Assam Rifles posted in Manipur's Ukhrul district allegedly opened indiscriminate fire at his colleagues, killing a Junior Commissioned Officer and five other jawans, after having a brawl with his colleagues.

Rifleman T S Tangkhul allegedly opened fire, killing the JCO and five other jawans at the 17 Assam Rifles' post under Chingai police station, official sources said.

The accused fled with some weapons and the force has started investigating the case.

Other unconfirmed reports claimed that two Assam Rifles mistook each other as militants and clashed, during which the six were killed.
