The Cupid-struck should better watch out while celebrating Valentine's Day in Assam on Saturday, as volunteers of 'Asom Sena', the moral police wing of All Assam Students' Union is going to keep a close watch on them.

"We are not opposed to the celebration of Valentine's Day but will certainly keep a watch so that nothing immoral and vulgar is indulged in by those out in celebration mood on the day in the state," an official of the Asom Sena said.

The vigilante group of the AASU, however, has restrained itself from playing a spoilsport by issuing any instruction prohibiting youngsters from enjoying V-Day celebrations.

Even as restaurants, resorts, shopping malls, parks and hotels in and around Guwahati have been given a festive look on the eve of Valentine's Day, the Asom Sena has asked the owners of these establishments not to facilitate anything that goes against the laid down social ethics, that are characteristics of the Assam's culture.

The Asom Sena was floated by the AASU three years back, to keep a check on anti-social and immoral activities in the state in the name of Valentine's Day and New Year's day celebrations.

A police source said they will be on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents related to celebrations.

Elsewhere in the northeast especially in states of Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, youngsters are all geared up for having a gala party time on Saturday. With the winter chill giving away to the pleasant warmth of February in the N-E hills, the atmosphere is just perfect for celebrations.
