Two Pakistani militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JEM) outfit were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir [Images] on Friday, a police spokesman said.

Shamsheer alias "Showkat bhai" and Irfan alias "Abu Talib", both residents of Pakistan, were killed in a gunbattle at village Daril-Vilgam in Handwara area, the spokesman said.

A joint party of police and Army cordoned off the village following specific information about presence of militants.

The militants, hiding in Abdul Ahad Rawat's house, opened fire on the search party and were killed in the retaliatory action, the spokesman said.

Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the slain militants, the spokesman added.
