Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Monday filed a criminal and civil suit against former chief minister and Janata Dal-Secular state president H D Kumaraswamy, for levelling bribery charges against him.

The case was filed before the Principal Civil and Sessions Court Judge H S Kempanna, who adjourned the hearing till Tuesday.

The petition filed by Yeddyurappa said that on October 1, 2008, Kumaraswamy son of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda alleged that a Rs 50 crore kickback was involved in awarding the contract for construction of residential quarters for economically-weaker sections in Ejipura in Bangalore to a private construction company Maverick Holdings.

The petition was filed under Indian Penal Code Section 199 and sub Section 234.
