Two suicide bombers late Thursday evening forced their way into the battalion headquarters of paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on the Boulevard Road on the banks of Dal Lake, when the chief minister was hosting an Iftar party at the Sheri Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) at a close distance.

One of the bombers has been killed in the shoot-out, which left three personnel injured, the police said.

The police said two suicide militants hurled hand grenades and fired indiscriminately from their automatic weapons at the guard post of the 144 battalion CRPF located in hotel Boulevard.

"Heavy firing exchanges are going on in the area, which has been sealed off.  More reinforcements have already been rushed to the spot and senior police and paramilitary officers are at spot supervising the operation," a senior police officer said.

Authorities have also rushed more paramilitary reinforcements to SKICC where  the chief minister, Ghulam [Images] Nabi Azad is present.

The party is being attended by the state governor, senior ministers, bureaucrats, politicians, senior police officers and prominent citizens.

The area was thronged by people busy shopping on the eve of Eid. The whole area was immediately cordoned off, sources said.
