Election Commissioner Navin Chawla on Monday visited Saurashtra and Kutch region and met leaders of various political parties as part of preparation of state assembly elections to be held next month.

Chawla, who arrived in Rajkot on Monday afternoon after visiting Kutch region, held meetings with leaders of various political parties, collectors and police superintendents of eight districts of Saurashtra region.

Talking to the media after the meeting, Chawla said he discussed election preparation with the officials and noted their suggestions and objections.

He said the EC has not received any complaints related to breach of the Model Code of Conduct.

Chawla was hopeful to conduct transparent election in Gujarat and said, "We are in good position to conduct fair and transparent election, which we did in Uttar Pradesh," and added that the commission is satisfied over the law and order situation in the state.

He also asked the police department to tightened its grip to control liquor transportation for peaceful elections.

Chawla said the Election Commission would send a general observer to each and every constituency to minimise bogus voting.
