Bharatiya Janata Party president Lal Kishenchand Advani has come under tremendous pressure from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to either adhere to Sangh policies and thinking or tender his resignation as party president.
Since Monday morning, the pressure has been building on L K Advani to quit in the wake of his refusal to accept Sangh directives.
Senior RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat and others met former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Advani to sort out the differences between the Sangh Parivar and the BJP.
Thereafter, the RSS leaders held a series of meetings with senior leaders of the BJP, which included Venkaiah Naidu, Jaswant Singh, Sushma Swaraj and others.
In fact, the entire BJP leadership barring Advani was holding talks with RSS leaders on Monday night at the Sangh headquarters in their bid to defuse the situation.
Sudhendra Kulkarni, who tendered his resignation as political adviser to Advani recently, also made a surprise appearance at Advani's residence.
Advani has been under pressure ever since he made the controversial statement describing Mohammed Ali Jinnah as a secular leader during his one-week trip to Pakistan recently.
According to sources, if differences with the RSS are not sorted out, Advani may quit as BJP president. BJP sources, however, have denied that Advani is under any pressure from the RSS.
