Terrorists kill 11 in Tripura

G Vinayak in Guwahati | January 27, 2003 13:57 IST

Eleven people, including five women and a three-year-old girl, were killed and six injured when terrorists of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura raided a village in West Tripura's Bankim Nagar village on Sunday night.

The terrorists fled and crossed the international border before security forces could reach the area, police said on Monday.

The Tripura police and the Assam Rifles reached the village, which falls under Mandai police station, to take stock of the situation.

It was the first massacre in the state after the dates for assembly election were announced. Along with Meghalaya and Nagaland, Tripura will go to polls on February 26.
