The 84th Oscar Awards were, like every year, a star-studded affair where the best of clothes and the biggest stars were in attendance.

Hollywood ladies really played it safe this time with everybody turning up in impeccable outfits and accessories.

Here's looking at some of the best appearances.

Vote for your favourite at the end!

Cameron Diaz

The insanely chic-looking Cameron Diaz, who's just upped her hotness with a short haircut, looked ultra-glam in a figure-hugging Gucci premiere gown that had a shimmery tiered train.

She rounded off the look with Salvatore Ferragamo satin pumps and a diamond choker necklace.

Gwyneth Paltrow

After her stunning outfit at last year's Oscars, fashion experts were wondering if Paltrow would be able to top it this year.

Turns out, she totally did!

The Contagion actress wore a stunning Tom Ford dress with a cape with a cuff bracelet and sleek hair tied in a low pony.

Sofia Vergara

The hot Modern Family Latina Sofia Vergara put her best assets on display with a body-hugging white column dress that had a sheer front panel.

Vergara also sported huge chandelier earrings, diamond bracelets and a jewel-encrusted clutch.

Sandra Bullock

Academy Award winning actress Sandra Bullock was a vision in a two-toned embroidered Marchesa gown with a plunging back.

Rooney Mara

Arguably the most edgy girl in Hollywood at present, Rooney Mara gained quite a few admirers with her choice of designer label for the awards ceremony.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo actress, who was also nominated in the Best Actress category, was a stunner in a Givenchy gown and teamed it with red lips and a glossy chignon.

The actress was also being courted by Prabal Gurung and Calvin Klein to wear their label to the Oscars.

Penelope Cruz

All eyes were fixed on the lovely Penelope Cruz as she made a grand entry at the red carpet. The actress wowed in a grey Armani Prive starpless number.

She rounded off the look with diamond jewellery and classic Hollywood curls.

Emma Stone

The darling of the moment Emma Stone was a show stealer in her brief appearance on stage.

The Help actress wore an eye-catching red Giambattista Valli gown.

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie stuck to her favourite -- a black strapless gown with a thigh-high slit. If we had a nickel for every time we saw her in one of those, we'd be as rich as her!

The actress wore an Atelier Versace gown.

Viola Davis

Best Actress nominee Viola Davis looked quite different with lighter and shorter hair.

She wore a green Vera Wang gown and added a pop of colour to the red carpet.

Michelle Williams

Another Best Actress nominee, Michelle Williams was a clear Tim Gunn favourite in a red Louis Vitton dress with tiers and a train.
