Five Telugu Films That Disappointed Last Year

There were quite a few big budget Telugu films that had everything going for them in terms of budget, star cast, locales and technicians but were hugely disappointing. Here's a look at five such films:

Shakti

Cast: NTR Jr, Ileana

Director: Mehar Ramesh

This was an Ashwini Dutt production with NTR Jr and Ileana in the lead and was made on a big budget. It also had actors such as Pooja Bedi, Jackie Shroff and Sonu Sood from the Hindi film industry and was lavish in terms of sets.

But the whole film was a wasted effort as the storyline, which combined mythology and reality, was out of sync with today's times and too tedious to watch.

Badrinath

Cast: Allu Arjun, Tamannaah Bhatia

Director: V V Vinayak

Much was expected from this film as it was an Allu Arjun film, a Geetha Arts Production, with a picturesque Himalayan setting, beautiful sets, especially the one of the Badrinath temple by Anand Sai. Ravi Varman put in some good camera work and there were well orchestrated action sequences (Allu Arjun even went to Vietnam for martial arts training).

None of that did any good with a plot that was far from engrossing. The best that can be said for it was that the film was a glossy production with high technical standards.

Panja

Cast: Pawan Kalyan, Sarah Jane Dias, Anjali Lavania

Director: Vishnu Vardhan

After Teenmaar, this was supposed to be Pawan Kalyan's big film in 2011. The Power star's new look, two debutante heroines -- Sarah Jane Dias and Anjali Lavania -- and director Vishnu Vardhan from the Tamil industry, aroused some curiosity.

However, the film was more style than substance and the script was a major let down for Pawan who put in a restrained performance.

Anaganaga O Dheerudu

Cast: Siddharth, Shruthi Hassan, Lakshmi Manchu

Director: Prakash Kovelamudi

This fantasy movie had the backing of Walt Disney Productions along with K Raghavendra Rao and was amazing technically.

The computer generated imagery done in India was fabulous and one of the highlights of the film.

Despite all this, the visual extravaganza with Siddharth, Shruthi Hassan and Lakshmi Manchu did not find favour with audiences, probably due to a poor storyline.

KSD Appalraju

Cast: Sunil, Swathi, Brahmanandam

Director: Ram Gopal Varma

Ram Gopal Varma came to helm this Telugu film after quite a while. So the hype around the film, which dealt with the travails of a filmmaker, was high. So was the promotion.

But the film was quite a dampener. Though Ram Gopal Varma had a good subject, he fell short in developing it. And the movie turned out to be boring and quite a wash-out at the BO.
