The new film is based on a book called Dongri to Dubai - Six Decades of The Mumbai Mafia written by journalist S Hussain Zaidi.

John plays a gangster called Manya Surve, the man who killed Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar's elder brother Sabir.

The film also stars Anil Kapoor, Kangna Ranaut, Manoj Bajpayee, Sonu Sood, Mahesh Manjrekar and Ronit Roy. It will be directed by Sanjay Gupta.

Manya Surve's death in 1982 was the first-ever recorded encounter by the Mumbai police, when he was shot dead by the then Inspector Issaq Bagwan (played by Anil Kapoor) and his team.

The shootout had taken place at the Vidyalankar Institute of Technology in Wadala, Mumbai, on November 1, 1982.
