PIX: Shammi Kapoor's last journey

The last rites of legendary actor Shammi Kapoor took place at Ban Ganga crematorium in South Mumbai at 11 am on Monday.

The entire film industry turned up to pay their last respects to the actor, who succumbed to renal failure on Sunday.

Not many know that Shammi married Geeta Bali at the Baan Ganga temple. Later, Geeta was cremated at the Baan Ganga crematorium.

"He was a great actor and a wonderful human being. His style and his acting was a cult and it will remain so forever. We will never have another Shammi Kapoor in our life again," Chopra told the media later.

Danny Denzongpa also arrived to pay his last respects to the star.

After the funeral, Amitabh tweeted: 'Last rites this morning at Baan Ganga for Shammi ji... The end of another era .. Another soul that enriched our lives. Gone ! Enveloped by flames, reduced to ashes into his abode in Heaven .. Shammi Kapoor ! Bhagwaan aapki atma ko shanti dein !!'
