Introduced for the sole purpose of highlighting the crackling chemistry between the lead actors in love or lend an otherwise ‘thanda’ script some sensationalist spice, kissing is no longer a Bollywood taboo.

Even before Sanjay Leela Bhansali was out with his latest extravaganza, hero Ranveer Singh piqued everyone’s curiosity by calling his on-screen kiss with rumoured girlfriend and Ram Leela co-star Deepika Padukone the ‘best ever you’ll see in a Hindi movie.’

Undoubtedly, it IS loaded, uninhibited stuff.

As for Singh’s enthusiastic exaggeration? We’ll treat it as just that.

Even though they’re no longer a couple, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone demonstrate commendable maturity, warmth and professionalism, alien to Bollywood with its history of bitter exes, in Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

John Abraham and Kangna Ranaut wildly pounce on each other’s mouth and more to showcase the lustful facets of their characters in a carnally picturised bedroom scene of this overdone sequel to Shootout At Lokhandwala.

Unlike the explicit tone of Shootout, Lootera is elegance personified.

Relying on the simmering foreplay between Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha, a tender buildup leads to a poetic peck.

Fleeting yet sexy.

Before the rom-com came out, Sushant Singh Rajput’s ’27 kisses’ declaration threatened to take over Emraan Hashmi’s territory.

Only Shuddh Desi Romance is much more interesting than that. Ditto for the no-holds-barred smooching between Rajput and his two leading ladies --(predominantly) Parineeti Chopra and (occasionally) Vaani Kapoor.

Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor polish up their kissing skills against the typical set-up, rains, romance and where one thing leads to another and you-know-what.

The two are said to be romantically involved ever since.

Randeep Hooda’s bold and prolonged smack on Saqeeb Salem in Bombay Talkies had everyone talking about both -- the action as well as the man who directed it -- Karan Johar, best known for his grand, family-oriented melodramas.

Interestingly, Hooda gamely performed another such aggressive lip-lock with co-star Sikander in the violent drama, John Day.

He’s 41. She’s 27.

Age gap hardly seems to come in the way of Arjun Rampal and Shruti Haasan’s steamy, unrestrained kiss in D-Day.

Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sonal Chauhan get wet and flirty for an amorous exchange in the supernatural thriller, 3G.

Too bad their photogenic kisses failed to draw audiences in.

Arjun Kapoor and Sasha Agha raise the mercury with their heavy-duty lovemaking scenes in Aurangzeb.

Equally eye-catching are the rampant kiss and make-up sessions between the first-time pairing.
