Indian audiences have always welcomed films with a patriotic flavour.

So, not surprisingly, Bollywood serves up two movies from this genre -- Shershaah and Bhuj: The Pride Of India -- in Independence Day week.

But that's not all.

There are quite a few movies in different stages of production.

Joginder Tuteja takes a look at Bollywood's patriotic movies, coming up.

RRR
Release date: October 13

A group of freedom fighters take on the British in RRR, one of the biggest films ever made in India.

Director S S Rajamouli, right after the blockbuster success of the Baahubali series, makes his new film one to watch out for.

A pan-India film, it stars NT Rama Rao Jr, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt, and isset for a Dussehra release.

Maidaan
Release date: October 15

Besides Bhuj, Ajay Devgn has another patriotic film up his sleeve: Maidaan.

While Akshay Kumar played the manager of India's hockey team in Gold, Maidaan -- which is set in pre-independence India -- features Devgn as football coach Syed Abdul Rahim.

This film is also planned for a Dussehra release.

With RRR slated for the same timeline and also featuring Devgn, it has to be seen whether the clash will indeed happen at the box office.

Satyameva Jayate 2

John Abraham returns with the Satyameva Jayate franchise in as many as three roles.

Though John's double role look has been revealed in the film's posters, it is being said there is yet another part that he plays and it will be revealed once the film's release is around the corner.

Director Milap Zaveri surprised the trade when Satyameva Jayate took a very good opening in 2018.

Now that the sequel is ready, the makers are just waiting for COVID to phase out before announcing its release plans.

Kartik Aaryan plays a pilot in Captain India, said to be about a rescue mission to save Indians from a war-torn country.

While one gets an impression of Airlift from the film, this film features the youngest star from the new generation.

Major

If not for the pandemic, Major would have already been released.

Based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who was martyred in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, Major is a bilingual in Telugu and Hindi.

The film is special for Adivi Sesh since he makes his Hindi debut with this action drama.

Sam Bahadur

After going through title changes, the story of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw will now be known as Sam Bahadur.

Meghna Gulzar returns to direct another patriotic film after the blockbuster Raazi.

Tejas

While Janhvi Kapoor has already played an air force officer in Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Kangana Ranaut will wear the IAF uniform too.

Playing a combat officer, Kangana will be seen in another action-packed role after Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.

Udham Singh

Vicky Kaushal is on a patriotism spree, understandably so, after delivering the blockbuster Uri: The Surgical Strike.

Udham Singh was announced more than two years ago, and its shooting wrapped by the end of 2019.

One would have expected this film about revolutionary freedom fighter Udham Singh to arrive in 2020. but then the pandemic struck.

Meanwhile, Shoojit Sircar released his Gulabo Sitabo on the OTT medium. One awaits Udham Singh in theatres.
