Among the metro cities, Kolkata offered the lowest salaries while people in Mumbai paid the highest salaries, says a report in The Wall Street Journal.

Salaries were 20-40 per cent higher in Mumbai than in Kolkata.

While in some cities, like Ahmedabad in Gujarat, domestic workers on an average get Rs 6,500 per month, say the WSJ report.

The driver is the highest paid while the maid gets only half of what the driver earns, says the WSJ report quoting a survey done by Babajob.com.

Even nannies earn lesser than what drivers get, showing that people pay more to people handling their cars than their kids!

In Mumbai, while drivers earned Rs 13,000 a month, the maid was earned only Rs 7,000.
