Nasdaq-listed IT services firm Kanbay International, which employs 3200 people in India, is expanding its facilities in Pune and Hyderabad to accommodate over 6500 employees and announced setting up of its global training centre in Pune.
"Work is on for the new campus in Hyderabad and the company is also expanding the capacity of its Pune facility, which together would accommodate an additional 3500 employees," Raymond Spencer, chief executive officer of Kanbay told PTI.
"We expect the new infrastructure to be ready by the end of the first quarter of 2006," he said.
In addition to its development centres in Pune and Hyderabad, Kanbay also has operations in Chennai, which came into its fold after the recent acquisition of Accurum, another IT services firm in the BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance) segment.
Spencer said Kanbay has also taken a decision to set up its global training centre in Pune. This was also expected to be ready by the end of the first quarter of 2006, he said.
Kanbay's 80 per cent of global workforce of 4000 people operate from its India centres. At present, the company has about 2200 associates working in Pune while another 850 associates are working at its leased facility in Hyderabad.
"We believe that high value services can be done from India due to high level of technical skill and deep domain knowledge (of Indian engineers)," Spencer said.
Spencer said Kanbay was building a campus with a capacity to house 3,500 employees in Pune and another at Hyderabad for 3000 people.
He said over 50 per cent of Kanbay's revenues come from its operations in India.
While many companies view India for its lower cost of personnel, Spencer said Kanbay considered India to deliver high-value services. "We want to leverage on India's strength to deliver high-value services," he said.
Kanbay, which was ranked number nine on Business Weeks' 2005 'Hot Growth' list of America's 100 best small companies, had posted a compounded growth of 37 per cent in its sales over the last three years.
