New India to enter NZ, Qatar

New India Assurance plans to open offices in New Zealand and Qatar to expand operations, and is aiming at over Rs 5,470 crore (Rs 54.70 billion) business this fiscal.

"We are planning new offices in New Zealand and Qatar. Our overseas business is expected to grow 5 per cent to Rs 920 crore while domestic premium is targeted to grow 12 per cent to Rs 4,550 crore (Rs 45.50 billion) this fiscal," NIA Chairman Rajender Beri said on Tuesday.

With the international operations in 28 countries, the company's gross global premium is expected to be Rs 5,470 crore this fiscal when compared with Rs 4,921 crore (Rs 49.21 billion) in 2003-04.

Beri was in town to present the highest-ever dividend of Rs 45 crore (Rs 450 million) to Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Monday evening.
