Young entrepreneurs in India would actively participate in the forthcoming assembly elections in five states.
They would not be candidates but the voting percentage of young voters this time could break earlier records, thanks to the efforts of a handful of them.
The Young Indians (YI) forum of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is planning to carry out a campaign before the assemble elections which would ask people to exercise their voting rights.
The vice-chairman of the Young Indians forum of CII, N Sethuraman, said that the organisation would start the promotional campaign next week.
Elaborating on the move, the chairman of the Kolkata chapter of YI, Ravi Todi, told the media here that the organisation was planning to tie up with a cellular telephone service providers for this.
"We are planning to send SMS on the voting day or may be even before asking people to exercise their rights," he said.
Besides the use of SMS, YI would organise programmes in leading colleges and would hire hoardings in cities and districts headquarters.
"We are also thinking about distributing leaflets in these states," he said.
Todi argued that YI had decided to go for this campaign as it felt that the involvement of more and more people was of prime importance for vibrant democracy.
"We also want to lure the young voters that constitutes a major chunk of electorate," he added. Earlier, Sethuramon told the media that YI would be opening eight new chapters in the current year including one in north-eastern India.
The forum currently had 10 chapters and around 450 members.
"We want to take the number to 750 in next one year," he added.
The vice-chairman of YI pointed out that it would be focussing on five areas.
These were youth affairs, education, economy, healthcare and environment. It had already tied up with SOS for its education programme.
