Blue Dart sets up tech hub in Bangalore

August 17, 2006 16:33 IST

Courier and air express package distribution company Blue Dart has set up a back-up technology hub in Bangalore as part of its business contingency and continuity plan.

The BCCP is aimed towards ensuring that all centralised applications and the web interface for customers are made seamlessly available to them, senior company executives told a news conference in Bangalore on Thursday.

Through this, Bangalore will serve as the standby site with real time switchover in the event of any eventuality at the company's Mumbai headquarters, which hosts the entire centralised operations and the website, they said.

The company's senior vice-president, South II Region, Gopinath Menon, said technology is a critical component in the company's distribution and logistics for connectivity, control and ensuring a sophisticated decision support tool.

"Our BCCP is part of our Rs 25 crore (Rs 250 million) investment, excluding aviation services, we had earmarked this year," Menon said.

"We have selected Bangalore because it is in a different seismological area from Mumbai and is considered to be the IT capital of the country."
