Mittal Steel has said the Canadian Competition Bureau has assured it of not challenging its bid to acquire Arcelor.

In a statement posted on its website, the company owned by NRI steel tycoon L N Mittal said the clearance accorded by the Canadian Competition Bureau was unconditional.

"Along with the granting of EU anti-trust clearance on June 2 and the expiry of the waiting period under the US Hart-Scotte-Rodino Anititrust Improvements Act of 1976 on May 11, 2006, this clearance is a further positive and important step towards successful completion of Mittal's bid," the company said in its statement.
