To expedite the process to clear applications for long distance services, Department of Telecom has constituted a three-member committee whose recommendations would be final for the award of licences.
The committee would be meeting every Monday to review the pending applications and clarify any queries from the applicants. The decision to this effect was taken by Communications and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran.
DoT has so far received 15 and six applications for national long distance and international long distance services respectively, which are pending at different stages of processing, an official release said.
DoT, in November 2005, had simplified the procedures for NLD and ILD licences so as to facilitate the growth of the IT enabled services in the country.
The three-member committee would be comprising joint secretary (telecom), deputy director general (basic services) and deputy director general (value added services).
