The company declined to say how many people it employs in Britain.
HP France on Monday confirmed that 1,240 jobs would go in that country. European spokeswoman Anette Nachbar said the company was not issuing a breakdown of all the European cuts, but that these would be announced in each country once consultations with workers' representatives were completed.
"It depends on how fast the local teams are coming to a conclusion," said Nachbar, who is based in Switzerland.
The European layoffs are part of a plan announced in July to cut 14,500 jobs worldwide and overhaul HP's retirement plan to save $1.9 billion a year.
