IMAGES: Kanjeevarams are now high couture!

Day Three of Lakme Fashion Week opened with classic hand-woven creations featuring floral and animal motifs in bold patterns and warm colours in a collection titled 'Ardhagini' by Gaurang Shah.

The designer, known for his eco-friendly collections, managed to pull off the retro Kanjeevaram theme with elan, the garments making a vibrant impact as they cascaded down the runway.

Veteran actress Kirron Kher was the celebrity showstopper, but first, a glimpse from the rest of the line, which commenced with all the models stepping out together for a first look.

We see a lovely golden sari sporting a red border, with more draping added on courtesy an earthy floral shawl.

Pink, green and rose gold come together in a rich combination, while the choli is a contrasting red-black affair.

A Kanjeevaram border and kalamkari shawl work well together in vivacious red.

The designer offers a varied palette and Indian silhouettes, ranging from churidaar-kurtas to ghagras.

A delightful orange anarkali cascades to the floor and is set off by a pink and black dupatta.

We see a lovely blend of Kanjeevaram and kalamkari once more, in sheen-tinted orange and, red and black.

Geometric patterns come to the fore with this ensemble, although Gaurang's animal theme also features alongside.

Kavita Kharayat is a vision in bright yellow, channelling old-world glamour.

Nethra Raghuraman is equally alluring in a flurry of rosy hues.

Kirron Kher looks like she's having the time of her life as she steps out in a lovely champagne-hued drape.

The designer's kurta mirrors his theme; he acknowledges the applause alongside his venerable muse.
