Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrera, Naeem Khan, Vera Wang -- these are just a few of the big league players that showcased at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York last week.

The collections seen this season were nothing if not sexy. The garments were designed for fall-winter and they did more than warm us up -- they sent the temperature soaring!

If you don't believe us, check out this evening gown from Theyskens' Theory on Day , showcased on Day Five. A completely sheer bodice moves into a satin skirt, slit all the way up the front.

Eccentric couturier Richie Rich had bright colours and daring cuts on display, like this ragged-edge sunset corset, worn over nothing but stockings.

Short, sweet -- and very, very funky. That's how Marcel Ostertag's strapless blue cocktail came over.

A lot of new young talent also emerges at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. This matching maroon hoodie and leather skirt were part of a line presented by the Academy of Art University.

Herve Leger is responsible for creating a worldwide craze with their bandage dresses and they stuck to the formula. Head designer Max Azria offered up this pristine white gown with cut-away stripes on Day Six.

Now we didn't see this one coming -- a two-piece for the cold? Victoria Bartlett certainly seems to think so. Oh, well, maybe the wrap is warm!

Ah, to own a piece by Ralph Lauren couture is a dream! This green silk beauty is classic, glamorous and shows a lot of leg.

Veteran designer Jill Stuart decided to go the bright route and showcased several shining dresses with rich citrus tone like this one.

A model walks the runway in a G-Star Raw chic bomber jacket, worn over boyshorts -- now that's hot!

Dull colours don't necessarily mean dowdy -- this one-sided silk blouse and olive jacket-skirt combo prove the point.

Indian-origin designer Naeem Khan did us proud with his elegant eveningwear, like this corset mermaid fantasy, rich with detailing on the bodice.

Simplicity can be striking, as this backless Derek Lam ensemble in yellow and grey goes to show.

Victoria Beckham was well able to hold her own against the stalwarts of the fashion industry, as this classy pleated get-up goes to show. The singer-turned-designer's talent was well-received.

Monique Lhuillier has created a reputation for herself based on bridal couture and evening gowns and this black beauty is proof of her skills.
