We asked you to share pics and stories of your furry companions. Reader Amit Dey, 59, from Virginia, USA tells us about his dog Candy.

"Our babies (Romeo, Candy and Elsa) are our world and mean everything to us. Candy is going to be 15 in August, Romeo is 14-and-a-half and Elsa, the monkey of the family is going to be 5 soon," he writes.
"Both my wife and I grew up with dogs in India, but I have never seen a more intelligent, wise and manipulative dog than Candy.
"Romeo is a dog from another world. I would say it is more like a beach bum, and Elsa is kind of neurotic, crazy and adorable at the same time.
"There are so many stories about Candy. Once my wife lost her expensive earring. So the next day I was walking her (Candy) in the backyard of our apartment, and I saw her picking up something from the grass. I tried to open her mouth, but they were locked shut. She was just 4-and-a-half-month old. She didn't open her mouth till we reached home.
"Then she went straight to her mom, opened her mouth and dropped the lost earring!
"Romeo on the other hand ran away 21 times from home and every time he gets back, he gets a rap on his ear from Candy. He just lowers his head and takes the rap.
"Elsa has no special stories. She is just happy around us.
"None of them are pedigree dogs. We adopted all of them from the shelter.
"Just wanted to add my two cents here: All dogs are gifts from the Almighty! All of them are adorable. It all depends how you treat them. So please adopt and save a life!
"As a human you have the whole world to yourself. You, on the other hand, are the whole world to your pet."
