Truth or hype? We find out!

Motorola Moto X Force

Motorola Moto X Force is the latest offering from Motorola and one of the premium phones available in the market. Due to the recent success of the Moto G series, expectations are really high. This is the first premium offering from Motorola and at Rs 50,000, it is going to compete with existing players like Sony Xperia Z5, Microsoft Lumia 950XL, and Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

However, one thing which puts this phone way ahead of its competitors is its shatterproof screen. Let's first explore the shatterproof feature followed by a complete review of the Moto X Force!

The Moto X Force shatterproof experience: Six layers of protection!

The Motorola Moto X Force is packed with a unique protection technology called Moto ShatterShieldTM. The screen consists of 6 layers. Normal Android smartphone screens consist of 3 to 4 layers.

Just like you, I was also not convinced of the shatterproof experience as the phone is still not out in the Indian market. Then, I saw Motorola President Rick Osterloh shortest Press Conference Videoand also the Ashton Kutcher Truth or Drop Video (both available online). I believe these videos speak more than 1000 pictures and words about the shatterproof experience.

Design and UI

Motorola Moto X Force

Chunky, practical and rough: These three terms define the overall design perspective of the Motorola Moto X Force keeping the shatterproof experience in mind. At 9.2 mm thickness, it is a relatively lighter at 169 grams as compared to iPhone 6s Plus and Nexus 6P. Equipped with crisp edges at the corners, the Moto X force is wider and require both hands to hold it. The elegant and classy Cognac Pebbled leather gives you a feel of holding a quality leather in hand.

The MotoMaker application on the Motorola site provides you an option to choose the colour for front and frame. You will also get an option to design the back portion. You can also customise the rear by choosing soft grip or ballistic nylon. You can also choose accent colour around the camera lens on the back portion and engrave your name on the back.

Camera

Motorola Moto X Force

Motorola has invested heavily on the camera feature and it is really visible when you see the camera specifications. If the 21-megapixel rear camera features Dual LED CCT flash, the front camera is a 5 megapixel selfie-camera with a flash. As smartphone cameras become better and better, it is important to note that flashlight plays the most important part to determine if the camera can take balanced photos under any light.

On that note, this phone features dual LED Colour Correlated Temperature Flash. The dual flashlight estimates the environmental conditions like available light and then adjusts the picture quality to click an accurate picture which is neither overexposed or washed out. As compared to other flash technologies like Xenon, it saves battery life also.

With additional features like face detection, autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, auto-HDR and option to make 4K and Full HD videos@30 FPS, I believe the camera feature on the X Force is the one to watch out for.

Processor and storage

Motorola Moto X Force

Moto X Force is powered with 2 GHz Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Processor, and 3GB RAM. What it means is that on one side, you have one of the best processor speeds available on a smartphone (2Ghz) and on the other side, the Octa-Core processor from Qualcomm ensures you have four times the processing power to handle high-end tasks like gaming and streaming videos at a lightening speed.

The phone does not heat up considerably while executing multiple tasks which is an important factor to be considered while buying a smartphone.

Operating system

Motorola Moto X Force

Motorola Moto X Force runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and Motorola is working to upgrade the operating system to the latest Marshmallow very soon.

Connectivity

Motorola Moto X Force is equipped with WLAN (Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, hotspot), A-GPS, NFC, Infrared port, wireless charging, LTE support, and microUSB 2.0 USB slot.

Sensors

The phone is equipped with all the required sensors like accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass. Motorola Active display ensures you see automatic notification icons when you approach the phone.

Memory

The Moto X Force will be available in two variants with 32 and 64 GB internal memory. The phone supports 2TB of external storage through microSD slot.

Battery

One of the important highlights of this phone is the  large 3,760 milliampere-hour battery. This is considerably higher than its counterparts like Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and iPhone 6S Plus. As per reports, the battery is expected to last two days in case of mid to heavy usage. The phone is equipped with Turbo battery charging feature too. The phone gets fully charged in an hour.

Other features

The sound feature boosts of active noise cancellation with dedicated mic. It supports MP3/AAC+/WAV/MP4/H.264 player with a photo/video editor and document viewer. The phone has a 3.5mm headphone standard jack and enabled with stereo speakers.
