On top of Kudremukh
Kudremukh peak, some 100 km away from Chikmagalur in Karnataka is a golden destination for any trekker. Part of the Kudremukh range in Kudremukh National Park, the word Kudremukh means horse-faced and stands for the shape of the peak.

Airfare for Rs 100 and less!

I have wanted to trek to this peak for quite some time now. But because of Naxalite problem in the region the routes were closed by the forest department until recently.

The moment I heard that the trek routes had re-opened I quickly set up a team to hike there with me -- Sukanth, Ananth, Ajay, Sathish, Prashanth, Bharath, Vijay and Hemanth.

We headed out of Bangalore on February 23rd night in a large Tempo Traveller. We reached Kudremukh forest office by 9 am the next day after a short halt at a river near Kalasa to freshen up and have breakfast.

We had chalked out a plan beforehand: trek from Basrikal gate to Tholalai and then to Kudremukh peak and finally to Navoor. Distance: 33.4 km.

But the regional forest officer did not give us permission to head to Navoor after scaling the peak. We were instructed to return to Basrikal gate from the peak (33 km). We were also told we would get a guide at Tholalai.
