Australian all-rounder Steve Smith has played down talks that his talent shows enough to suggest that Australia's wait for Shane Warne's replacement is over.

The 21-year-old has impressed on his two outings for Australia against Pakistan despite being seen primarily as a batsman who can bowl.

"Obviously being a leg-spinner there are certain expectations that come with it, but I've had a few chats with Shane and he knows I'm my own person, just like he is," the Daily Express quoted Smith, as saying.

"I really don't like those sort of comparisons because Shane was a genius. I've got to go about things my own way and hopefully I'll be successful."

"I bowl totally differently to how he bowled – I don't think there's ever going to be another Shane Warne," he added.

Smith made his Test debut in the recent match against Pakistan at Lords. His bowling was not required in the first innings, but he took three wickets for 51 in the second innings.

In the Twenty20 World Cup, he took 11 wickets over seven games at an average of 14.81 to finish as the equal second highest wicket-taker at the tournament.
