Rohit Sharma etched his name in the annals of cricket history after becoming the first batsman to score two double-hundreds in One-day Internationals and a record 264 runs off 173 balls, smashing 33 fours and nine sixes, in the fourth match of the just-concluded series against Sri Lanka, at the Eden Gardens, in Kolkata, earlier this month.
Obviously, there was reason to celebrate. And he did after returning to Mumbai by throwing a party for his India teammates teammates, the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team and a few Bollywood celebrities.
Sachin Tendulkar, the first cricketer to get a double hundred in ODIs, congratulated Sharma on becoming the first to achieve the feat twice. In doing so, Rohit surpassed Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, who both scored a double ton each.
'I didn't get to see his innings, but getting another double ton is special and I feel very happy for Rohit. A perfect form of match practice and preparation before the Australian tour,' said Tendulkar, who attended the party with his wife, Anjali.
India’s leading wicket taker, the lanky Ishant Sharma, was also present to congratulate his teammate.
Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani attended the celebration with her son, Akash.
Former India medium pacer Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra were there.
Actress Preeti Jhangiani joined the party with her actor husband Parvin Dabas.
Sports enthusiast and actor Suniel Shetty came with his wife, Mana.
Stylish opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan walked in solo.
The Khans of Bollywood were represented by director-actor Sohail Khan and his wife, Seema.
Dhawal Kulkarni, Rohit’s Mumbai teammate, was also present.
