India struggled with the bat as they finished on 32/4 in their five overs.

Axar to bowl the final over. Benjamin has a big swing first ball but is beaten.

Slow and wide from Axar as Benjamin ends up chipping it over the off-side for a single.

Axar bowls a wide to Alexander Shirai-Patmore, who misses the reverse sweep.

Another wide from Axar to left-hander Alexander to bring the equation down to five from four balls.

Axar is not happy with the umpire's call saying that is not legally a wide as the left-hander is playing the reverse sweep.

Now Shreyas Iyer is having a word with the umpire as the decision is overturned.

Crucially, the wide is overturned and it is ruled a dot ball.

Alexander slog sweeps the fourth ball to deep midwicket for a single.

Flat and wide from Axar as Benjamin strokes it down to long-off for one.

Japan need 4 from last ball but Alexander misses the sweep and can manage just a leg bye.

Sundar to bowl the fourth over. Benjamin swats the first ball towards square leg where the fielder makes a diving stop to keep it down to two runs.

He then lofts the next ball straight as the long-on fielder does well to keep it inside the ropes for two more runs.

Benjamin pulls it to deep square leg on the bounce for another single.

Captain Kendel chips Sundar straight down the ground and the two batters do well to scamper back for the second.

Kendel goes for the reverse sweep but is beaten and he falls off the last ball, getting it off the outside half to be caught at short thirdman for 12.

Kendel misses the reverse sweep before Bishnoi bowls a wide. Kendel then takes a tight single into the covers as Shreyas gets the direct hit. There is no third umpire for the match as the on-field umpire rules it out and Japan profit with another extra run courtesy of the overthrow.

Kendel then laps the spinner fine on the leg side for a crucial boundary before he steals two runs to the fielder at long-on.

Bishnoi goes for 10 runs in his first over with Japan needing 15 from two overs for victory.

Upset on the cards? Japan restrict India to 32/4 in 5 overs

India 32-4 (5 ovs) vs Japan | SCORECARD

On a pitch where the spinners got the ball to turn and bounce, India's batters were found wanting as they finished on 32/4 in five overs.

If Japan's batters can get a couple of sixes and boundaries in the Powerplay they will fancy their chances of chasing down this total.

The powerful Indian batting line-up managed just two fours in their five overs.

Shreyas Iyer was the top-scorer with a sedate 16 from 12 balls, while the top three of Sanju Samson (9), Abhishek Sharma (0) and Ishan Kishan (3) managed just 12 runs between them.

It was all spin for Japan with the ball. Charlie Hara-Hinze was Japan's best bowler with figures of 2/17, while Ibrahim and Benjamin picked a wicket each.

Shreyas slaps the next through the off-side for a single to get off the mark.

It is not clear what is causing the delay. The outfield and pitch is not under covers while the match referee has a long discussion with the ground staff.

He also had a chat with India captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach V V S Laxman.

Some damp areas on the outfield seems to be a big concern especially for the Indian players, who could risk a few injuries if they slip on the damp pitches.

It remains to be seen when the match is likely to start. So far no news about the toss or the scheduled start of play.

A sizeable number of Indian fans wearing the blue jersey have packed the stands and are grooving to some peppy Indian and Japanese chartbusters.

More Than Just a Match for Cricket in Japan

India vs Japan T20I
India vs Japan T20I

Japan will get their much-awaited moment under the sun when they host cricketing giants India for a historic one-off T20 International in Sano on Tuesday with the hope that the game's impact extends well beyond the field of play in a country that loves baseball.

The match was announced recently and is being accommodated ahead of India's Asian Games campaign in Aichi-Nagoya, launching celebrations of the 75 years of India-Japan diplomatic relations.

India are the reigning T20 World Cup champions while Japan are ranked 41st, making it a no contest on paper. But beyond the statistics, the game presents an opportunity of a lifetime for Japanese cricketers to rub shoulders with the best in the business.

A typhoon threat looms large on the landmark game but even if a ball is not bowled, the scheduled fixture has already made an impact in a country where cricket is pushing to emerge from the margins and become mainstream like baseball.

"There's been an awful lot going on in the background of Japan cricket for many, many years, and it's great now that we are above sea level, I guess, and we're actually visible to a few more people," said Japanese Cricket Association COO Alan Curr said ahead of the game.

"A lot of the success has almost already happened. The fact that India has agreed to come, the fact that I'm sitting here talking to you guys, the fact that there's already a lot of Japanese media coming tomorrow to find out more about this game and about the sport -- I think success is already here," he added.

It also helps that that cricket is being played in the ongoing Asian Games as well, raising more awareness for the general public in Japan.

The match will be played at Sano International Cricket Ground, roughly 100km from the bustling city of Tokyo where the Indian team landed on Sunday.

The 2000-capacity ground, which is likely to accommodate a larger crowd in tomorrow' game, is also used for baseball. Unlike many other non cricketing nations, majority of the cricketers in the Japan are native and the game's promoters are not relying on the South Asian diaspora to grow the game in the country.
