John Wright joins team in Dhaka

April 13, 2003 16:44 IST

Indian coach John Wright on Sunday joined the team in Dhaka a few hours before its match against South Africa in the TVS Cup triangular series.

Wright did not travel with the team due to the death of his father but had indicated that he would be with the team
for the second match.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has appointed Ashok Malhotra, coach of the India 'A' team, as the interim coach of the national squad in Wright's absence.

Malhotra will, however, stay with the team till the end of the tournament.

Wright's two-year contract had ended after the World Cup but the BCCI extended his contract by two months.

As indicated by BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, Wright is all set to get a one-year extension.

A final decision, however, would be taken by the Board's working committee when it meets later in April.
