Mankind has always attempted to define and illustrate the beauty of diamonds in so many words.

Films have been made, novels have been written and songs have been shared to define the lustre of these most coveted gemstones.

Value of a diamond is measured on the basis of four cs -- carat, cut, colour, and clarity.

In India, most diamond mines were depleted decades ago and the country is no longer a source for rough diamonds.

However, the country has one active diamond mine at Panna, in Madhya Pradesh, which is run by the state-owned National Mineral Development Corporation.

We present here some stunning photographs of diamonds from across the world. The selection is random.
