The Sensex resumed 13 points lower over its last close at 7,136. After recovering soon from its lows in early trades, the Sensex notched up significant gains and breached the 7,200 levels in mid-morning trades.
While the north-bound trend continued, the Sensex, aided by steep rally in heavyweights and other select old economy counters, soared to a new intra-day high of 7,228 in early noon trades.

The Sensex, on selective gains, finally ended the session with a small gain of two points at 7,151. The Nifty added five points to close at 2,200.
