Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly Tuesday said the team deserved to be criticised if it did not perform well but described incidents of violent protests back home by angry fans as 'ridiculous'.

"Some of the incidents which have happened back home are ridiculous," Ganguly said. "We expect criticism when we don't do well. But to see car windows being broken and homes stoned is ridiculous."

Irate fans in India, disappointed by the team's dismal start to cricket World Cup, took to the streets, burning effigies of the players and holding protest demonstrations.

The house of Mohmmad Kaif in Allahabad was defaced with black paint and motor oil, prompting the administration to provide security cover to residence of some of the cricketers in different cities.

Ganguly said the players' were not concerned about the safety of their families as there was adequate security for them and were entirely focussed on the remaining matches.

"Our focus is completely on cricket. We are not concerned about the safety of our families. Security has been provided to the families after the incidents," he said. Ganguly said all was not yet lost for the team and the players were determined to bring the smiles back on the faces of their fans.

"We still have got four games and there is a lot of opportunities to qualify for the Super Six. We are disappointed but will try our best to bring the smiles on the faces of our supporters."
