Canada vs Bangladesh at Kingsmead, Durban

This was Canada's fourth limited-overs international and World Cup match. It was the team's first since the 1979 World Cup.

  • The partnership of 23 runs between Desmond Chumney and Ian Billcliff was Canada's best for the 3rd wicket, bettering the previous best of 18 runs put on by Franklyn Dennis and Martin Stead against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979.
  • The partnership of 22 runs between Ian Billcliff & Joe Harris was Canada's best for the 4th wicket, bettering the previous best of 7 runs put on by Martin Stead & Cec Marshall against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979.
  • The partnership of 26 runs between Ian Billcliff & Abdul Sattaur was Canada's best for the 6th wicket, bettering the previous best of 19 runs put on twice -- by Cec Marshall & Bryan Mauricette against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979, and by Mauricette & John Vaughan against Australia at Birmingham on 16-6-1979.
  • The partnership of 12 runs between Ashish Bagai & Sanjay Thuraisingam was Canada's best for the 8th wicket, bettering the previous best of 4 runs put on by Mauricette & Jitu Patel against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979.
  • The partnership of 13 runs between Thuraisingam & Austin Codrington was Canada's best for the 9th wicket, bettering the previous best of 6 runs put on by Jitu Patel & CC "Neil" Henry against Australia at Birmingham on 16-6-1979.
  • The partnership of 21 runs between Codrington & Davis Joseph was Canada's best for the 10th wicket, bettering the previous best of 3 runs put on by Jitu Patel & John Valentine against England at Manchester on 14-6-1979.
  • The above partnership was the best by any team against Bangladesh for the 10th wicket in LOIs. The Codrington-Joseph partnership bettered the previous best stand of 13 runs between Sri Lankans Muttiah Muralitharan and Champika Gamage at Sharjah on 6-4-1995.
  • Ian Billcliff's 42 just failed to surpass Glen Sealy's 45 against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979, which still remains the highest score by a Canadian batsman.
  • Canada's total of 180 runs (49.1 overs) was its highest in LOIs. Its previous highest was the 139-9 it made in 60 overs against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979.
  • The partnership of 30 runs between Ehsanul Haque & Sanwar Hossain was Bangladesh's highest for the 4th wkt wicket in the WC eclipsing the previous best of 28 runs between Akram Khan and Naimur Rahman against Pakistan on 31-5-1999.
  • Austin Codrington's 5-27 was the best bowling figures by a Canadian bowler in LOIs. The previous best was the 2-27 by CC "Neil" Henry against Australia at Birmingham on 16-6-1979.  This was also the best bowling performance against Bangladesh in a WC match. The previous best was the 5-35 by Pakistani Saqlain Mushtaq at Northampton on 31-5-1999.
  • Codrington's figures are the best by a bowler from a non-Test playing nation. Only two other bowlers have five wicket hauls in LOIs -- 5-29 by Shaukat Dukanwala for UAE against Holland at Lahore on 1-3-1996 and 5-33 by Aasif Karim for Kenya against Bangladesh at Nairobi (Gym) on 10-10-1997.
  • Codrington, meanwhile, becomes the only second bowler to take a five-wicket haul at this ground after Pakistan's Waqar Younis' 5-25 against the home side on 9-2-1993.
  • This was Bangladesh's 26th loss in 27 matches (with one no result match). Its last win came against Pakistan at Northampton in the previous WC on 31-5-1999. This was Canada's first win in four matches. The team had lost all its three matches in the 1979 WC.
