Three former government employees, including retired defence estates officer, R C Thakur and Brigadier (retd) M M Wanchoo, arrested on Tuesday in the Adarsh Housing Society scam, were on Wednesday remanded to the Central Bureau of Investigation custody till March 31.
Of the nine accused, those who secured bail include IAS officer Pradeep Vyas, former deputy secretary in Urban Development Department P V Deshmukh, Brigadier (retd) M M Wanchoo, retired Defence Estates Officer R C Thakur, Major General (Retd) A R Kumar, Major Gen (Retd) T K Kaul and former MLC Kanhaiyyalal Gidwani.
After a wrap on its knuckles from the Bombay high court for lackadaisical approach in probing the multi-crore Adarsh housing scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested four accused including a retired army brigadier.
The special Central Bureau of Investigation court hearing the Adarsh scam on Tuesday received applications from former deputy secretary P V Deshmukh, an accused in the case, and family of another accused former civic body chief Jairaj Phatak seeking to defreeze their bank accounts.
Maoists on Thursday blew up a police jeep, killing a policeman and injuring four others at Jaranga village in Jharkhand's Khunti district. Inspector-General of Police V Deshmukh said the jeep overturned under the impact of the blast. He ruled out the possibility of a landmine causing the blast. All the injured victims have been admitted to a hospital in Ranchi. The Maoists also blew up a middle school, Anant Madhya Vidyala, at Pratappur in Chatra district.
The aircraft to be operated would be an ATR-42 type capable of carrying around 40 passengers, Deshmukh said, adding he was holding talks with a senior Kingfisher official on Monday for following up the issue with DGCA in Delhi. The Ojhar airport is restricted for Indian Air Force activity and is occasionally used for VIP flights.
