War of words continued between Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta and Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh over the role of the previous government in encouraging activities of Students Islamic Movement of India in the state, when he was the chief minister.
Madhya Pradesh Assembly was on Tuesday adjourned sine die three days before schedule following ruckus and uproarious scenes created by the opposition Congress demanding resignation of Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta, on the issue of gang rape of a Swiss woman in Datia district.
"During 1993-2003, when Congress was in power, Madhya Pradesh had become a safe haven for the terrorist and disruptive forces as all the major incidents that took place within the country at that time had direct or indirect links with the state," Gupta told PTI in an interview.
This is perhaps for the first time the CBI raided a serving police chief of a state.
